This guide, produced by the International Rivers and Heritage Institute, is aimed at anyone who wants to obtain a qualification or improve their knowledge and skills in the study and management of heritage in the area of river environments: natural or cultural heritage, tangible or intangible.
The issues of "Rivers and Heritage" are situated at the point where a number of different disciplines meet : the various courses offered together constitute a whole, in particular at Master's level (five years post-secondary education).
The Institute and its partners are considering the possibility of creating integrated course options in the near future. Furthermore, a certain degree of flexibility can be achieved within the standard qualifications system (first degree, Master's, doctorate) in developing programmes with modules taken from a number of different courses and even from a number of different institutions. This guide has been compiled in order to facilitate such initiatives and encourage the development of others like it.
It is also aimed at all those, in France and throughout the world, who wish to follow certain parts of the courses on offer on an ad hoc basis, particularly as part of a continuing education programme.
The Guide will be launched during a meeting open to the professors involved in the concerned courses, on June 6, 2006 in Saumur. For more information, please contact the Institute at +33 (0)2 47 66 06 65.
