In April 2015, Mission Val de Loire held four département-wide meetings which brought together 170 participants: mediators (33%), other professionals and elected officials from local authorities (24%), associations (16%) and tourism institutions (13%). The 20 projects or initiatives presented sought to provide inspiration, each in their own way, for all of the stakeholders looking to encourage inhabitants and visitors to take on board the values of the UNESCO listing (Guidelines 8 of the Management Plan).
They are hugely diverse in terms of scope, theme, method, tools, scale and intended pubic, and this diversity is essential for encouraging a comparison of perspectives and initiatives, and for accounting for the wealth of the Loire Valley World Heritage cultural landscape.
A tour-workshop was organised in the morning at three of these meetings with professional mediators to share question time and give consideration to practices about how to include the Loire Valley World Heritage listing in a guided tour? An initiative worth delving further into.
These meetings were organised by Mission Val de Loire with assistance from the network of mediators involved, local authorities and/or the tourist information offices that hosted them in Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, Montlouis-sur-Loire and Chalonnes-sur-Loire.
