The inclusion of the Val de Loire on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in November 2000 has made it possible to take a fresh look at approaches and projects concerned with illuminating areas and regions which were, in their time, pioneers in this field. It should not be forgotten that the first French son et lumière show was created at Chambord in 1952 and that many other monuments emblematic of the heritage of the Loire have been illuminated since.
