The “City of Art and History” Department has just published a new booklet on Rue des Moulins (mill street), created in collaboration with the City of Saumur’s Council of the Wise. The street was the focus of a “Rencontre Paysages” (encounter with landscapes) organised in the summer of 2010 and led by Council of the Wise member M. Rousseau.
Running along the edge of the hillside, Rue des Moulins bears witness to an activity that reached its peak in the 19th century. There are still remains to be seen of half of the thirty-two mills that once lined both sides of the street.
