Since 16 March, the historical hotel located within the national estate of Château de Chambord has given way to the new Relais de Chambord. Inaugurated on 2 May, architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte was entrusted with extending and converting the former post house into a 4-star hotel.

Frédéric Jousset, entrepreneur and current administrator of the Louvre, responded to the call for tenders launched in 2014 for a takeover of the Saint-Michel Hotel (2-star), with a bid to turn the hotel into a luxury establishment. He called on the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte to carry out the redevelopment and on the Marugal Group to manage the hotel.

The architect decided to retain the original height and features of the building (wooden dormer windows, tuffeau stone cornices and mullioned windows for example), while gracing it with a resolutely contemporary style and adding a 1,000 sq.m. extension. After three years of work, one of which (2016) was hampered by flooding, the new hotel sits proudly beside Château de Chambord and fits perfectly into its environment.

Enjoying breathtaking views over the Château, the Relais de Chambord has 55 guest rooms and suites over 3 storeys, a restaurant serving elegant cuisine (Le Grand Saint Michel), a wellness centre and seminar rooms that can accommodate up to 60 people.
