Centre of excellence on specialised vegetation

In November 2012, the Pays de la Loire Region initiated deliberations with actors in the fields of research, training and innovation with a view to increasing the territory’s visibility and drawing power. The “Salon du Végétal” trade show for the flowers and plants industry hosted the official launch of an initiative designed to bring together regional concerns in creation of an international centre of excellence on specialised vegetation over the coming 5 years.

The collective roadmap lists a range of objectives:

strengthening research quality, visibility and attractiveness upstream,
increasing the drawing power of the Loire Valley’s training schemes in the sphere of plant cultivation,
reinforcing ties between training and the socioeconomic world,
making innovation central to training,
strengthening research-innovation synergies,
increasing the Loire Valley’s overall visibility in terms of plant life,
structuring and organising the Research-Training-Innovation project.

The budget for the initiative is an estimated €12M over 5 years. The Region will be contributing €5M and Angers Loire Metropolis €1M. National and European financing is also expected.

Most of the stakeholders involved in the initiative will be brought together by 2015 at the Campus du végétal financed under the terms of the 2007-2013 State-Region Projects Contract.
