Orléans is celebrating 600 years since the birth of Joan of Arc

Every year, from the end of April to the beginning of May, since 8 May 1429, Orléans has commemorated its liberation and the acts of bravery that Joan of Arc accomplished in 1429 to free the city. In 2012, the celebrations will not be organised over merely a few days – but all year long!

They kicked off with the ceremony of handing over the sword at Sainte-Croix Cathedral, during which the young girl playing Joan of Arc in 2011 gave it to the girl taking her place.

An electro set, exhibitions, mediaeval festival, symposium, performances and garden films are just some of the things in store over the coming months.
