At the beginning of the year, Luynes, Rochecorbon and Beaulieu-lès-Loches in Indre-et-Loire were officially recognised as "Petites Cités de Caractère" (small towns with a remarkable heritage), bringing the number of villages listed under this label to 12 within the Loire Valley World Heritage site.
After Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire in 2019, two new municipalities in the Loire Valley World Heritage site have joined the network of “Petites Cités de Caractère”. This network brings an array of stakeholders together around a common aim: to safeguard heritage as a driver for local development.
The small towns with "Petites Cités de Caractère" status in the UNESCO-listed area of the Loire Valley are:
