This new work by the historian Françoise de Person, with photographs by Pierre Aucante, has been awarded the “Val de Loire Patrimoine Mondial” label.
“Les Graffiti de Bateaux de Chambord”, is an invitation to climb aboard and hear the Loire’s story. It was along the river that materials for construction of the mighty Chambord project were transported. François I had even planned to change the course of one of its branches. The Loire boats, imaginary or seaworthy, made their secret way into the château. The graffiti form the direct and naïve testimony of the Loire’s own people, etched into the tuffeau stone – precious, moving documents that tell us of the boatmen, their boats, and how so capricious a river was navigated.
The two authors will be signing their work on Saturday 3 December from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Labbé bookshop in Rue Porte-Chartraine, Blois.
