On Tuesday 24 June 2014 in Tours and Savonnières, in homage to the multifaceted work of François Beaudouin, Mission Val de Loire and the general inventory mission of cultural heritage, alongside numerous partners, will together consider the transmission of this knowledge both to the scientific community and to those fond of the river. His talented and pioneering work, his know-how and his capacity to pass on his knowledge will be highlighted.
This day of homage and study has been organised by Mission Val de Loire in conjunction with the ministry for culture and communication / Directorate general for heritage / general inventory mission of cultural heritage, with the support of the municipality of Savonnières and the participation of the "Les Bateliers du Cher" association.
On 7 and 8 May 2014 in Montjean-sur-Loire, many friends, bargees, association members and people who have had the opportunity to work with him came together to pay tribute to François Beaudouin, on the initiative of Philippe Cayla and Florent Godelaine. This shared moment comprised personal accounts, exchanges and sailing on the Loire.
The man who, in January 1967, founded the inland shipping museum of national interest in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine was an ethnographer, sailor, river painter and heritage curator. All throughout his career, he worked for the recognition of river and maritime nautical space in all its diversity and for the showcasing of its heritage in all its forms.
In active retirement during his final years, he continued teaching at conferences, supporting varied projects (construction of the Savonnières flat-bottomed "scute" boat, taking part in exhibitions, model and film making, and so on).
