To mark the beginning of this year’s tourist season, Rando Éditions and Petit Futé have each published a guide to discovering the Loire châteaux, either by bike or as users choose.
Most of the Loire Valley’s châteaux are located between Orleans and Saumur – an itinerary over 300 km long, most of which runs alongside the river itself, leaving the banks on occasionso as to ensure that no masterpiece is left out. More than just a bike ride, the journey is also an immersion in the history of France, taking in some of the finest achievements of Renaissance architecture.
Rando Éditions - April 2016
120 pages - €12.50
This new edition boasts a revised, profusely illustrated format including maps and suggestions, along with cultural and sightseeing information. Following the layout of the Loire Valley World Heritage site, the guide covers the départements of Indre-et-Loire, Loiret and Loir-et-Cher as well as a part of Maine-et-Loire. Although the Renaissance was the golden age of the Loire châteaux, many of them bear partial witness to earlier architectural styles and/or later modifications.
