Centre Images and the Pays Loire Touraine are organising a joint initiative to safeguard and promote amateur films made in the Pays Loire Touraine from the earliest days of cinema right through to the present. A film-gathering campaign has been underway since September 2007 to gradually build up an audiovisual memory of the region, and a series of screenings has been scheduled for this spring.
The aim is to
raise awareness amongst the inhabitants of the Pays Loire
Touraine of the importance of safeguarding the amateur films made
in the region by their families. Without realising it,
they have
some real treasures that can help in writing and exploring
the history of our region... Some of these amateur films
show previously unseen, local images of the liberation, whilst
others offer an opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere
of grape harvests, processions and country fairs from the 1930s
onwards; closer to our own time, there are images of local events
from the 1950s to the 1970s (such as the inaugurations of official
buildings, and local festivals) as well as family pictures that
offer an insight into a society that has undergone huge change.
Each screening will consist of a 1-hour programme of films.
They will also provide
an opportunity for amateur film-makers or their families to
find out more about how to have their family films stored and
digitised.
The screenings are free of charge and will take place on:
- Wednesday 2 April 2008 at 20:30 at Espace Ligéria in
Montlouis-sur-Loire
- Friday 11 April 2008 at 20:30 at the town rooms in
Auzouer-en-Touraine
- Wednesday 16 April 2008 at 20:30 at the cultural centre in
Bléré
- Friday 23 May 2008 at 20:30 at the Raymond Devos room in
Monnaie
- Tuesday 3 June 2008 at 20:30 in Amboise.
The programme for each session will be tailored to the
location and will offer an opportunity to explore new films and new
first-hand accounts of local life in the Pays Loire Touraine from
the 1930s onwards.
