Only a dozen jobs will be kept out of the present 153, 7 for landscaping products (flaked slate) and 5 for ensuring the industrial site’s safety.

The Slate Museum in Trélazé

For all those interested in this mineral heritage, the Slate Museum remains open, with attractions including: 

• Demonstration of slate cutting
• Exhibition rooms presenting the geology, ancient and modern quarrying techniques and the various uses of slate. Tools and machinery illustrate the succeeding stages in slate quarrying history.
• Footpaths: On a site listed as remarkable Anjou heritage, hikers can acquaint themselves with the “mound” and “old depths” landscape typical of the quarry environment. In surroundings ideal for bird-watching, a marked itinerary acts as a perfect introduction to ornithology.
