Educational and documentary awareness-raising kits designed and produced in partnership with the Orléans-Tours Education Authority were disseminated to lycées in the spring of 2011 and to collèges in spring 2012. An initial survey on use of these kits was carried out in 2013, the results of which have just been published.
The survey’s conclusions show that there was relatively little use of the kits during the 2012/2013 school year, but that, when teachers do make use of them, they regard them as quality aids fully meeting their expectations.
Teachers see the kit as being particularly valuable when they are setting up projects to do with the Loire. The DVD has been made considerable use of, above all the photographs and the film “Vivre les Paysages”, which have served as the basis for a number of projects. Teachers requested that its content be augmented with further resources and digital animation. 3 schools that did not use the kit in 2012/2013 stated their intention of using it during the following school year.
Use of the kit remains limited. This may be because teachers lack information and do not always know that the aid is available at their school. A new information campaign is to be undertaken with a view to spreading the word more widely.
The kits were produced with a view to raising young people’s awareness of the meaning and values of the inscription, in the context of implementation of Guideline VIII of the “Loire Valley World Heritage Site” management plan.
