In order to obtain its very own personalised box for the protected nature spot of Varinnes, located in the Letter Box village of Saint-Martin-d'Abbat, 53 box ideas have been received by the organisers: the Conservatory, who owns and manages the nature spot, and Saint-Martin-d'Abbat-Demain, who came up with the "Letter box Village" project. The jury has deliberated and chosen the box that will be placed at the entrance of the Varinnes nature spot at the end of summer 2013.
This box, which will grace the nature spot's entrance, will make this a "nature" focal point for the village and an additional stop on the rounds of postmen and -women, thus beckoning a little bit more of biodiversity to the Letter Box village.
Les Varinnes is a wetland dip in the major bed of the Loire, a patchwork of natural meadows where orchids blossom left, right and centre in season (like the western marsh orchid, loose-flowered orchid - which are protected at regional level - and the green-winged orchid) to the delight of all sorts of insects and birds ... The Conservatory has designated this a protected nature spot since 2003 and owns 25 hectares of it.
