Chambord revamps its welcome

The village of Chambord’s square has been undergoing major upgrading work since the autumn of 2015, with a view to restoring its traditional “village square” character. New paving and the planting out of two new avenues of lime trees are among the improvements being made to renovate the square and re-establish views of the château.   

The reception hall

This is being built at the entrance to the village in full respect of the site’s architectural aesthetic. With a surface area of around 500 m², the new reception facility will prioritise visitors’ comfort, providing quality services including free toilets, a cafeteria and a shopping area. It will also improve staff working conditions.

Opening the kitchens

The newly restored 18^th-century kitchens are open to the public for the first time, enabling visitors to learn more about the daily life of Château de Chambord’s occupants. 

Work on restoring Chambord’s kitchens was carried out between 2015 and March 2016 following a study by the Chief Architect of Historical Monuments. Their restoration has enabled preservation of archaeological vestiges and of the walls in their original state. It has been accompanied by recreation of the original furniture based on period items and authentic kitchen utensils in use in the late 18^th century.
