With the 2013 Loire Festival in view, Orleans City Council has launched a call for projects on design and creation of a traditional Loire boat. Actors in the Loire Valley’s fluvial sector are invited to define, build and launch a boat set to become emblematic of Orleans.
Depending on the proposals put forward by the project promoter, local inhabitants and tourists alike will be seeing the project take shape alongside the quays of Orleans – up until the great moment when the finished result is finally launched on to the river a few days before the Festival opens. The project will provide a unique opportunity to witness the various steps involved in building a traditional Loire boat, (re)discover the techniques of bygone days, and relive the golden years when our quays were alive with the bustle of riverside boatyards.
The application form can be downloaded on the City of Orleans website. Applications are accepted up to 1 February 2013.
