On 13 November 2008 the Ministry of Culture named six new Cities or Regions of Art and History, including Orléans and Pays de Loire Touraine. These labels aim to enhance heritage, architecture and quality in built or landscaped areas.

- Orléans, which has made the Loire, which runs through it, one of the strategic focuses of its city planning policy .

- Pays de Loire Touraine, for which the label will be a tool in the fight against urban sprawl .

We should also note that the Ministry has ratified the renewed Tours' City of Art and History agreement.

The agreement signed between the State and local authorities is reflected in financial support for the five years of the agreement, but also in training for architecture and heritage leaders and for tour guides, and in support for the production of information and exhibition documents and teaching tools.

The Cities and Regions of Art and History constitute a national network which allows the most innovative practices to be shared. It is currently composed of 95 Cities of Art and History and 42 Regions of Art and History.
