The story of the Loire Valley’s bridge-towns’ reconstruction and architecture is a little-known saga. Nonetheless, post-war construction projects (1940-1953) in Loiret and the Loire Valley were outstanding examples of their kind and left their mark on urban planning in France. The “Reconstruction in the Loire Valley (1940-1953) - Loiret, workshop for the city of the future” exhibition is an altogether original way of telling the story for the first time.

Through photos, texts and archives, visitors learn how the Gien, Châteauneuf-sur-Loire, Sully-sur-Loire and Orleans  sites were precursors of new architectural styles despite the authoritarian context of the Vichy regime, following provisional phases of construction that have left their mark on town-planning in Loiret...

This promotion and mediation project, produced under the directorship of the Centre-Loire Valley Maison de l’Architecture in partnership with the Loiret CAUE, was developed with the assistance of DRAC, the Directorate of the Centre-Loire Valley Heritage Inventory, the city of Sully-sur-Loire, the city of Orleans, Orleans University, Eternit in Vernouillet and Kronofrance in Sully-sur-Loire, and the Centre-Loire Valley Order of Architects.
