In 2013, the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional nature park applied for candidature in the first section of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in protected areas. This section concerns the land of protected spots, parties involved in tourism and local associations, with a sustainable touristic development strategie being defined, as well as a 5-year action plan.
On 27 November 2013, the Centre Region organised a meeting of the “La Loire à Vélo” brand’s actors at Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire. The event provided an opportunity to present a very positive assessment of the tourist season, with almost 445,000 cyclists following the itinerary in the Centre Region, bringing the areas concerned close to 10.6 million euros in direct economic benefits. Foreigners account for 41 % of cyclists.
The second call for rural development initiatives (“ID en campagne”) in Pays Loire Touraine was launched on 15 November 2013. It aims to identify, encourage, try out and support rural projects that meet the following criteria: networking of actors, innovation and testing out of new actions, maintenance of social cohesion and consistency with territorial issues.
This new biscuit was created by Chalonnes pastry chef Benoit Cornuault for the Association des Chalandoux du 5e Vent, which has launched the product to promote Chalonnes’ identity. The official launch took place on the occasion of a “Ligerian Christmas” organised by the association on Saturday 14 December at the gabarot boatbuilding yard.
After being recognised as a "1ere Grande Tablée de France" (1st Great Table of France) by the French Ministry of Agriculture, the vinegrowers' organisations in Saumur have once again been honoured by the René Renou award for those who have "worked the hardest, over the past year, on defending and promoting the cultural heritage linked to viticulture".
The “Communauté de communes du Gennois” unitary authority has just set up the "People, a nature between two rivers" trail in partnership with the Loire Anjou Touraine Regional Nature Park. A booklet on sale in French or English is available from the Tourist Information Office (€1) and can be downloaded from the Internet.
The free app "Visit'Blois" gets you wandering around the town along illustrated trails (e.g. The "Gouffre" ancient natural water reservoir and fountains; the reconstruction of Blois; walking trails waymarked by bronze nails, etc.) or opting for snippets of information about your immediate surroundings thanks to a geolocation system (monuments, gardens, etc.). The app also has an augmented reality system (addition of virtual elements to the actual image seen in your smartphone) as a fun way to learn more about over 100 points of interest, videos, games and slideshows on symbolic sites, particularly with archive photos or photos of the inside of places that are closed to the public.
