In mid-January, Saumur got its classification as tourist resort. The application was handed to the Ministry for craftsmanship, trade and tourism in the summer of 2013. Saumur thus becomes the 116th town to be classified as a tourist resort.
In 2013, the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional nature park applied for candidature in the first section of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in protected areas. This section concerns the land of protected spots, parties involved in tourism and local associations, with a sustainable touristic development strategie being defined, as well as a 5-year action plan.
On 27 November 2013, the Centre Region organised a meeting of the “La Loire à Vélo” brand’s actors at Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire. The event provided an opportunity to present a very positive assessment of the tourist season, with almost 445,000 cyclists following the itinerary in the Centre Region, bringing the areas concerned close to 10.6 million euros in direct economic benefits. Foreigners account for 41 % of cyclists.
The second call for rural development initiatives (“ID en campagne”) in Pays Loire Touraine was launched on 15 November 2013. It aims to identify, encourage, try out and support rural projects that meet the following criteria: networking of actors, innovation and testing out of new actions, maintenance of social cohesion and consistency with territorial issues.
This new biscuit was created by Chalonnes pastry chef Benoit Cornuault for the Association des Chalandoux du 5e Vent, which has launched the product to promote Chalonnes’ identity. The official launch took place on the occasion of a “Ligerian Christmas” organised by the association on Saturday 14 December at the gabarot boatbuilding yard.
