The Roc-en-Pail (or Rocampaille) site in Chalonnes-sur-Loire underwent a fresh series of excavations in the summer of 2014, previous digs having been carried out between 1943 and 1969. New research on bones unearthed in those early excavations has shown them to be those of a Neanderthal man (45,000 years old) –the first of their kind to be discovered in Pays de la Loire.
The Tours Agglomeration Community has enlisted the support of VINCI Autoroutes to launch a competition entitled “And what if the A10 opened one or more urban thruways?” with a view to obtaining innovative scenarios breathing fresh life into connections between Tours and St-Pierre-des-Corps without negatively impacting the utility of the A10 motorway.
The cultural season organised by some thirty Loire Valley stakeholders to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Francis I’s accession to the throne was launched at the Royal Château of Amboise on 22 January 2015. Some fifteen journalists were in attendance, including 9 from the national press.
