The partners involved in the Angers Tourism.Lab project undertaken by Angers University aim to make Pays de la Loire a European leader in the fields of academic and applied research on tourism, training in professions linked to the sector, and innovation in tourism companies and tourist destinations.

Angers Tourism.Lab was officially launched on 10 April 2015 in Angers, with Christophe Clergeau, 1st Vice President of the Pays de la Loire Region, Christophe Béchu, Mayor of Angers and President of Angers Loire Métropole, and Jean-Paul Saint-André, Vice-Chancellor of Angers University, in the presence of some fifteen of the project’s initiators.

As far as its Research activity is concerned, Angers Tourism.Lab is looking to create and structure a research federation, i.e. a multidisciplinary team drawn from various laboratories, networking on shared projects. The main results to be expected by 2020 are:

  • development of research of excellence
  • a twofold increase in the workforce, to reach a total of 60 teacher-researchers, researchers and doctoral students,
  • a top-of-the-line international reputation thanks to consolidation of partnerships with Asia and North America.

One of its Training objectives is to create a complete educational pathway in tourism from Certificate of Professional Aptitude (CAP) to doctorate by 2020, to be structured around professions involved in three major areas of activity:

  • Hotels/Catering/MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events)
  • Tourism and leisure activities
  • Economic and tourism exploitation of culture, the arts and heritage

Angers Tourism.Lab also intends to structure an innovation ecosystem around tourism by bringing together actors in the fields of research/training (the academic world) and innovation (technopoles, competitive clusters, regional innovation platforms, incubators, Ouest Valorisation, development agencies, etc.).
