Kroměříž stands on the site of an earlier ford across the River Morava, at the foot of the Chriby mountain range which dominates the central part of Moravia. Listed as a World Heritage in 1998, the gardens and castle of Kroměříž are an exceptionally complete and well-preserved example of a European Baroque princely residence and its gardens.

The gardens have been around since the Middle Ages and were transformed during the Renaissance and the Baroque period. During the 19th century, they were once again transformed, this time into a 64-ha English park, with three ponds and several romantic structures.
